in North BC: The wilderness environment throughout the
Northern British Columbia region is rugged and remote creating
an ideal setting for wildlife viewing. The many mountain ranges,
the far reaching forests, the thousands of lakes and rivers provide
the shelter and food for many species of wildlife. A wilderness
environment unspoiled by human hands and best viewed from a distance.
Wildlife tours start as soon as you begin driving
the highways and backcountry gravel roads in North BC. Often,
on trips traveling between communities there is an opportunity
to view wildlife. Keep an eye open when traveling from the vehicle
- watch the meadows, the forests, the mountains and many times
wildlife can be spotted. When driving the highways of BC if you
come across a bunch of vehicles pulled over in the middle of nowhere
it is usually because someone spotted some wildlife.
The North BC region is very mountainous surrounded
by the looming Coastal Mountains to the west, the Rocky Mountains
to the east and the Cariboo Mountains to the south. The numerous
bogs, estuaries and wetlands in the forested valleys below these
mountain ranges is home to many species of wildlife including
moose,
mountain
goats, Bald
Eagles, wolves,
cougars,
black
bears, wolves,
and Grizzly Bears.
There are large parks in the North BC region that
have been set aside for the protection and resurrection of some
of the local wildlife. These parks are now home to some of British
Columbia's endangered species like the Grizzly Bear in the Khutzeymateen/K'tzim-a-Deen

Terrace, BC. Because of the many large parks located in North
BC many visitors exploring during a self guided walk, hike or
wilderness backpacking adventure will encounter wildlife.
Tour groups in the area offer wildlife tours to
various parts of the mountainous region. Most tours include an
interpretive guide and transportation in the form of a boat, float
plane, or off-road vehicle.
